Mason Deciduous Woods to be Dedicated Friday Afternoon

A section of the Linnaeus Arboretum at Gustavus Adolphus College will be dedicated and named the Charles & Harriet Mason Deciduous Woods at a public ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday, May 11, in honor of longtime Gustavus employees and Arboretum supporters Charles and Harriet Mason.

Elizabeth Baer Receives Faculty Scholarly Achievement Award

Elizabeth Baer, professor of English and African Studies at Gustavus Adolphus College, received the 2012 Faculty Scholarly Achievement Award on May 5 at the College’s Honors Day Convocation.

Paul Magnuson Student Leadership and Service Awards Reception is Wednesday

Five students and two student-led events will be recognized Wednesday, May 9 at the annual Paul Magnuson Student Leadership and Service Awards Program at Gustavus Adolphus College. The awards reception will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Heritage Banquet Room in the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center.

Junior Dawn Comstock Receives Glenn T. Seaborg Award

The Swedish Council of America has named Gustavus Adolphus College junior Dawn Comstock as the winner of the Glenn T. Seaborg Science Award for 2012. The award will allow Comstock to travel to Sweden in December and attend the Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar as well as several events during Nobel Prize Week.

Gustavus Receives Grant from the Mankato Clinic Foundation

The Mankato Clinic Foundation has awarded Gustavus Adolphus College a $5,000 grant to support the development and implementation of an innovative peer-group wellbeing coaching initiative at the College. The initiative is a key component of a new comprehensive campus-wide Wellbeing Initiative that the College plans to implement beginning in the Fall of 2012.

Celebration of Creative Inquiry is Friday

Gustavus Adolphus College will hold its fifth annual Celebration of Creative Inquiry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 4 in the banquet rooms of the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center. This campus-wide forum is a way for students to publicly share their research and scholarship from the current academic year.

Kruckeberg Receives Bob Stein College Scholar Athlete Award

Gustavus Adolphus College senior Brad Kruckeberg is the recipient of the 2012 Bob Stein College Scholar Athlete Award. Kruckeberg has been a standout on both the football field and in the classroom during his four years at the College.

Sophomore Megan Wika Receives DAAD Undergraduate Scholarship

Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore Megan Wika ’14 has been awarded a scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD)/German Academic Exchange Service that will allow her to study in Freiburg, Germany next fall through the IES Environmental Studies and Sustainability Program.

Seniors to Showcase Artwork at Hillstrom Museum

Ten senior studio art majors at Gustavus Adolphus College will have their work displayed at the College’s Hillstrom Museum of Art May 5-27. The exhibition, Senior Exhibition 2012: Unveiled will hold an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 5.
