Eric Butorac ’03: Moving Forward and Giving Back

As Gustavus and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) celebrate the inaugural Division III Week (April 9-13), Gustavus would like to celebrate one of its own former student-athletes, Eric Butorac '03. Butorac has not only gone on to a successful career on the Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour, but he has also found a unique way to give back to his home state.

Faith-Based Theatrical Production to Feature Alumnus Jonathan Swenson

The one-man play Witnesses, written by Curt Cloninger and featuring professional actor and Gustavus alumnus Jonathan P. Swenson ’88, will be performed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 in Christ Chapel. The performance is free and open to the public.

National Gallery of Art’s Eric Denker to Give Public Lecture

Eric Denker, senior lecturer at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., will present a public lecture at Gustavus Adolphus College at 3:30 p.m. Sunday April 15. Denker’s lecture is titled “In the Wake of Whistler: Prints of Venice, 1900-1940.”

New National Sorority to Colonize at Gustavus

Alpha Sigma Tau, a national sorority will colonize at Gustavus Adolphus College beginning in the fall semester of 2012. The sorority will begin work on campus this spring by working with an already established interest group and implementing the beginning stages of a marketing plan.

Gustavus Announces Creation of African Studies Minor

The Office of the Provost at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to announce the creation of an African Studies minor that will be offered to students beginning with the 2012-13 academic year. The African Studies minor is designed to offer students an opportunity to study the African continent and its peoples through varied courses across the curriculum.

Sophomore Sandy Xiong Named a Phillips Scholar

Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore Sandy Xiong has been named a Jay and Rose Phillips Scholar for 2012-14. Xiong was one of six Minnesota college students named a Phillips Scholar this year out of 16 finalists.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event is April 11

The Gustavus Adolphus College community will join the fight to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence on Wednesday, April 11 when it hosts a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the John’s Family Courtyard.

Gustavus to Celebrate Minnesota Poetry and Poet Laureate Joyce Sutphen

A group of eight distinguished Minnesota poets will come together at Gustavus Adolphus College the evening of Tuesday, April 17 for a celebration of Minnesota poetry in honor of Gustavus Professor of English and Minnesota Poet Laureate Joyce Sutphen.

Alumnus Justyn Dow ’08 to Open for Gavin DeGraw

The Campus Activities Board at Gustavus Adolphus College has announced that musician and Gustavus alumnus Justyn Dow ’08 will be the opening act at the Friday, April 13 concert headlined by Gavin DeGraw at Lund Arena.
