Colleges Against Cancer will host the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser, Relay For Life, at Gustavus Adolphus College April 20-21. More than 30 teams and 330 individuals who have already raised more than $25,000 for the charity are registered to participate in the event. This will be the 11th annual Relay For Life event at Gustavus.
Relay For Life has become one of the most successful fundraising events in the country, bringing more than 3.5 million people together annually to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, to remember loved ones lost to the disease, and to help fight the disease by raising money for cancer research. Teams set a fundraising goal, camp out at the event location, and then have at least one representative on the track at all times during the overnight event, which can last up to 24 hours in length.
The Gustavus Relay For Life event will take place in Lund Arena. The event will kickoff at 6 p.m. Friday, April 20 by honoring those who have survived cancer with an opening survivor lap. The entire schedule is as follows:
- 7 p.m. / Opening speakers Kristen Campbell and Ryan Hallsten
- 8 p.m. / Swing Club performance
- 9 p.m. / Luminary Ceremony
- 10 p.m. / Chuck Norris Challenge
- 11 p.m. / G-Sharp performance and Pre-Health Club smoothies
- 12 a.m. / Mr. Relay Pageant
- 1 a.m. / Neon and Nobel Gasses performance and Chemistry Club ice cream
- 2 a.m. / DJ Dow music hour and frost your own eating contest
- 3 a.m. / Emileah and Johnny Bates dance performance
- 4 a.m. / Habitat for Humanity competition
- 4:30 a.m. / Student Educators Association coloring contest and activities
- 5 a.m. / Shaving cream and cheese ball contest
- 6 a.m. / Closing ceremonies and breakfast
