Gustavus Adolphus College senior men’s basketball player Seth Anderson has been selected to represent the West Region for the Reese’s Division III All-Star Game online voting.  The ballot will be live on d3hoops.com from 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 5 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7.

Fans may cast a ballot to choose one player from among the choices and the two top vote-getters will be selected to play in the 2012 Reese’s Division III College All-Star Game held prior to the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship game at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va., on March 17 at 3:30 p.m. central time. Reese’s is the official candy partner of the NCAA.

“Seth’s statistics certainly make him a strong candidate for this game, however his passion and joy in playing basketball put him over the top as the best candidate,” said Head Gustavus Men’s Basketball Coach Mark Hanson.

This season, Anderson led the Gustavus men’s basketball team its first MIAC regular season championship since the 2004-05 season.  The Gusties went on to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament — the program’s first since 2005.  Starting in all 27 of Gustavus’ games and averaging 29.5 minutes per game, Anderson led the MIAC in scoring this season, averaging 21.5 points per game (21st in NCAA).  Anderson scored a league-high 601 points and shot .537 (240-447) from the field.

With 78-percent of his points coming off of two-point field goals, defenders found it hard to keep Anderson’s quick release and mid-range game in check this season, as he scored 30 points six times and hit the 20-point mark on 15 occasions. After scoring 22 points against Wheaton in Gustavus’ 78-70 loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Minnesota Lake, Minn., native fell just three points shy of Gustavus’ single-season scoring record of 604 points held by Luke Schmidt ’99 in the 1997-98 season.

Anderson became the fourth player in Gustavus basketball history to earn the MIAC’s Joe Hutton Player-of-the-Year Award at the conclusion of the season.  Gustavus’ team captain played in 95 games over his four-year career, scoring a total of 1,197 points (19th in Gustavus history) and shooting a career .524 (486-927) from the field. Anderson, a two-time All-MIAC performer, will graduate this spring with a degree in elementary education.

The two players will be given spots on the All-Star team roster, joining two seniors selected from each Division III region. In addition, two seniors from the teams eliminated in the national semifinals will be offered an opportunity to play, for a total of 10 players per side.
