The Gustavus men’s basketball game on Monday, Jan. 31 against Macalester College at 7:30 p.m. will serve as a benefit for the St. Peter Food Shelf. The Gustavus Athletics Department will offer free admission to anyone bringing a non-perishable food item to the game. All items donated at the game will be donated to the St. Peter Food Shelf.
The St. Peter Food Shelf is a non-profit organization, which has helped the St. Peter community for more than 30 years. Director Nancy Helgeson is grateful for the continued support from the community, both in the gifts of money and food as well as the wealth of volunteers that help stock the shelves and distribute the food. She noted that the St. Peter Food Shelf gets larger every year. Helgeson welcomes volunteers and donations. Those who are interested in volunteering can call Helgeson directly at 931-1303. Those who may be in need of food can call the Nicollet County Human Services Office at 931-6800 to make an appointment for food pickup. Individuals needing food can use the Food Shelf up to 12 times and year and they do not need a referral.
The Gustavus men’s basketball team is having another very successful season as it is currently 11-6 overall and 9-3 in the MIAC and very much in contention for the MIAC regular season title and a MIAC Playoff berth.
