The Campus Activities Board at Gustavus Adolphus College has announced that hip-hop recording artist Lupe Fiasco will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 17 in Lund Arena.
Tickets are currently available online at gustavustickets.com for Gustavus students and staff for $13. Tickets for the general public will go on sale March 10 and are $18 if purchased in advance and $20 at the door.
Fiasco has one Grammy Award (Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2008 for “Daydreamin”) to his credit and is an eight-time Grammy Award nominee. He released his debut album, Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor, in 2006. Singles from the album included “Kick, Push,” “I Gotcha,” and “Daydreamin” featuring Jill Scott. The album was later nominated for three Grammy Awards including Best Rap Album.
In 2007, Fiasco released his second album, Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool. The first single off the album was the song “Superstar,” which rose to No. 13 on the Billboard Pop Charts and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has become a popular at-bat song for several Major League Baseball players and has also been featured on the HBO show Hard Knocks.
Fiasco has announced that he will release his third album, titled Lasers, sometime in 2010.
An opening act for Fiasco has yet to be announced. Doors will open at 7 p.m. the night of the concert.
