The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present the Physical Theatre Project directed by Henry MacCarthy. The performances of this exciting production will be held in the department’s black box, December 10, 11, and 12 at 8:00 p.m. and December 13 at 2:00 p.m. There are 49 tickets available per performance.
Without the normal limitations that classify “theatre” and “dance,” this production breaks through the boundaries of everyday entertainment by demonstrating how expressive the body can be without speech. The performance is a collective creation, structured by the director, ensemble, and designers, filled with vibrant imagery, hilarious action and powerful music. Flashlights, furniture, and the surfaces of the performance space serve as simple props to help portray the complicated emotions of human beings in a unique and unforgettable way.
The Physical Theatre Project is rooted in creative experimentation and observation from the entire team. With the majority of the ensemble coming from theatre and dance background, they will strive to explore the expressive possibilities of the body by challenging themselves to step outside their comfort zone and create a fascinating performance from scratch. The ensemble includes Jane Chung, Robert Croghan, Sarah Ellefson, Sarah Jabar, Patrick Jeffrey, Jordan Klitzke, Benjamin Kolis, Megan Myhre, Chloe Radcliff, John Rasmussen, Nina Serratore, and Liz Yackel-Juleen.
The Physical Theatre project will highlight the lighting design created by Junior Erin Belpedio, with costume collaboration by faculty Andrea Gross and scenic collaboration by faculty Micah Maatman.
