Forensics Team Sweeps Tournaments at Concordia

The Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team traveled north to Concordia College in Moorhead on Nov. 21-22 for the first and second Valley Forensics League Tournaments of the year. The team came home to St. Peter with plenty of hardware after winning 16 of the 22 events as well as the team sweepstakes for both tournaments.

The Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team traveled north to Concordia College in Moorhead on Nov. 21-22 for the first and second Valley Forensics League Tournaments of the year. The team came home to St. Peter with plenty of hardware after winning 16 of the 22 events as well as the team sweepstakes for both tournaments.

Seniors Mary Cunningham and Emma Moreau, and first year student Christopher Moua all won three events during the two tournaments.

Cunningham took first place in Communication Analysis in both tournaments and also placed first in Informative Speaking on day one.

Moreau took all three of her first place honors on day two in Drama, Impromptu Speaking, and Duo with teammate and sophomore Chloe Radcliffe.

Moua earned top honors in Persuasion in both tournaments and also picked up a first place finish in Extemporaneous Speaking on day two.

Senior C.J. Hunt placed first in both After Dinner Speaking and Poetry on day one. Sophomore Lucas Youngvorst won the Drama category on day one and the Informative Speaking category on day two. Junior Phil Helt earned a first place finish in Extemporaneous Speaking on day one. Radcliffe added a first place finish in Impromptu Speaking on day one as well.

Several other team members placed in the top six in various events including sophomores Allegra Birdseye and Sam Hemmerich and first year students Kate Bissen, Kaitlin Burlingame, and Vanessa Condon.

The team’s next major tournament will take place Dec. 4-5 when it travels to the University of Wisconsin-Stout for the Michael Nicolais Collegiate Forensics Tournament.
