The Gustavus Adolphus College football team improved to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a dramatic 28-21 victory over Carleton on Saturday afternoon.
The Gusties scored the game-winning touchdown when senior quarterback Jordan Becker connected with sophomore wide receiver Elliott Herdina on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds remaining in the game.
Becker threw three touchdown passes on the day including a 25-yarder to Herdina in the first quarter and a five-yarder to Cody Sukalski midway through the fourth quarter.
The Gusties also got an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by senior Joe Welch in the third quarter.
Becker completed 13-of-27 passes for 170 yards on the afternoon. Herdina was the team’s leading receiver with six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns. First year running back Greg Ramaker carried 12 times for 64 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Paul Stommes, Dan Opitz, and Dustin Kammerer all had interceptions for the Gusties. Stommes also led the team in tackles with 14.
The team will be back in action next Saturday at Augsburg for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
