Softball Wins Game One at NCAA Championships Posted on May 12th, 2009 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College softball team continued its winning ways on Friday afternoon with a 5-1 come-from-behind victory over the University of Texas-Tyler in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships being held in Montclair, N.J.

The Gusties trailed 1-0 late in the game, but loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Sophomore Emily Wendorff lofted a single to left field that scored two runs to give the Gusties their first lead of the game at 2-1. Sophomore Kirsten Prunty capped the inning with a two-run homerun to straight away centerfield to give the Gusties a 5-1 lead.

Junior Betsie Collins scattered nine hits in six innings of work in the pitchers circle to earn her 13th victory of the season. Sophomore Erin Truebenbach pitched a scoreless seventh inning to send the Gusties into the second round of the winners bracket.
