The dance Vigorous Incubation was selected outstanding student performance and received a bid to perform at nationals in June.

A Gustavus Adolphus College dance piece was one of three entries chosen to be performed at a biennial national college dance festival in New York City. The work also earned the outstanding student performance award.

The Gustavus dance “Vigorous Incubation” was one of three entries from more than 30 colleges and universities selected to go on to the national festival. The decision was made by adjudicators at the recent American College Dance Festival Association’s (ACDFA) North-Central Regional Conference.

The North-Central Regional is one of 10 regions in the country. At the 2008 North-Central conference held in March, Gustavus entered two works, and “Vigorous Incubation,” choreographed by Visiting Instructor of Dance Cynthia Gutierrez-Garner, was selected as one of three works among the 41 presented for formal adjudication to be performed at the ACDFA’s national festival in June.

Seven student dancers perform in the work: senior Britta Peterson; juniors Katie Jensen and Nikki Rusinko; and sophomores Marissa Augustin, Sarah Jabar, Katelyn Pedersen, and Nina Serratore.

The other two works from the region selected for performance at New York’s Miller Theatre June 4-5 are a solo piece from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and an ensemble piece representing Webster University.

North-Central regional officials also selected “Vigorous Incubation” as the region’s nominee for the national organization’s ACDFA/Dance Magazine Award for outstanding student performance, which will be announced at the national festival in June.
