Gustavus Adolphus College Associate Dean Mark Braun has been appointed Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. Braun will begin his new duties on August 1.

“I will leave Gustavus with mixed emotions,” Braun said. “While I am excited for new challenges that lie ahead at Augustana, I will look back fondly on my time spent within the Gustavus community.”

Braun has served the college since 1990 — first as a Professor and Chair of Communication Studies before accepting the Associate Dean position in 1999. He has held numerous leadership positions at both the college and in the greater Mankato area.

He serves on the Board of Directors for the Collaboration for the Advancement of College Teaching and Learning. He has served on many church, volunteer, and civic boards in Mankato, including nine years on the Public Safety Civil Service Commission and more recently on Envision 2020, the community long-range strategic planning task force.

“While this is a wonderful opportunity for Mark, it is also a wonderful opportunity for Augustana,” Interim Dean of the Faculty Mariangela Maguire said. “I know they will appreciate the great energy and enthusiasm Mark brings to his work as well as his deep sense of commitment. He has made many contributions at Gustavus and he will be missed.”
