Two Gustavus seniors, Rosemary Shultz and Jennifer Patnode, organized a collect effort for blankets and quilts to aid people in southern Mississippi. The project collected an estimated 70,000 square feet of blankets and towels exceeding their goal of 48,000 square feet (Mississippi is approximately 48,000 square miles) to “Cover Mississippi.”

Originally scheduled to be delivered last winter, the collected blankets were loaded onto a rented truck on Saturday, June 3 by campus volunteers. After the original transportation for the estimated 2,000 blankets fell through, Bob and Anne (’62) Sorensen of St. James, Minn. volunteered to make the delivery to Ocean Springs, Miss.
