Albert T. Annexstad was bestowed the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, by Gustavus Adolphus College at its commencement ceremony on May 29.
Annexstad, whose mother was a longtime food service employee at Gustavus, is chairman, president, and CEO of Federated Insurance Companies of Owatonna, Minn., and a member of the college’s board of trustees. As a committed advocate and benefactor of the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in Minnesota, he has been instrumental in raising over $3 million for at-risk children in the state.
In addition, he has established scholarships through The Annexstad Family Foundation to help financially disadvantaged students who have matured through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program have a Gustavus education.
In 2004 he received the Connecting with Youth Lifetime Achievement Award from the Minnesota Business Partnership for his leadership and support of youth mentoring.
