Chapel Bells Toll For Tsunami Victims Posted on January 11th, 2005 by

Christ Chapel carillon at Gustavus Adolphus College will toll Wednesday from 10:20 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. as part of “A Day of Remembrance and Response.” This is in remembrance of those who have died as a result of the tsunami in Southeast Asia.

Chapel will end with a minute of silence and then the bell will toll, explains Chaplain Rachel Larson. “It will be a reminder of others’ suffering, and encourage us to respond with prayers and support.”

Relief aid through Lutheran World Relief will be the focus of the financial contributions during this remembrance. Donations may be made on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at a table on the lower level of the Johnson Student Union, online at http://www.lwr.org, or by calling 800-LWRLWR2. Donations by Thrivent members will be matched through http://www.thrivent.com/fraternal/tsunami.html.

Other relief organizations include: Heifer International at http://www.heifer.org, Jesuit Refugee Service USA at http://www.jrsusa.org, or the relief organization of your choice. Contact the chaplains’ office for more information at 507-933-7446.
