Minnesota poet and anthologist William Reichard will be at Gustavus Adolphus College April 6 to read from several of his works including his most recent book of poetry, Sin Eater. The reading will take place from 7-9 p.m. in the Interpretive Center, located on the grounds of the College’s Linnaeus Arboretum.

Minnesota natives Lise and Heid Erdrich will speak at the Gustavus Library Associates’ (GLA) Spring Author Day Tuesday, April 5 at the Edina Country Club.

Dr. Debra Mitts-Smith, an author, professor, and expert on children’s and young adult literature, will give a public lecture at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 in room 127 of Confer Hall.

Dr. Kathleen Vohs ’96, Land O’ Lakes Professor of Marketing and McKnight Presidential Fellow in the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, will present the 2011 John Kendall Lecture Series Address at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28 in Wallenberg Auditorium, located on the second level of the Alfred Nobel Hall of Science.

Former Gustavus volleyball coach Gretchen Koehler and former Gustavus gymnast and long-time gymnastics official Evie Erdman ’73 were presented the Special Merit Award at the Minnesota Girls and Women in Sports Day on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Eighteen Gustavus students are currently abroad in Cairns, Queensland, Australia, where a Category 5 cyclone began making landfall Wednesday morning. The group is staying in a resort hotel in Cairns that is judged by local emergency officials to be a safe location for shelter in the storm.

The 47th annual Nobel Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College, scheduled for Oct. 4-5, 2011, is titled “The Brain and Being Human” and will focus on current issues in the field of neuroscience.
