Gustavus faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends, the Board of Trustees, delegates from peer institutions of higher education, and several special guests, including Governor Mark Dayton and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, filled Christ Chapel on Friday afternoon as Gustavus officially inaugurated Rebecca M. Bergman as the College’s 17th President.

The ceremony included remarks by Governor Mark Dayton, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, and President Bergman’s father, the Rev. Dr. Harold Weiss, among others. The Gustavus Adolphus College football team will host Carleton College for its Homecoming game at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Hollingsworth Field.

Annika Johanson ’12 is a Child Life Specialist for both Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, and Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. She is charged with helping children and their families overcome life’s most challenging events.

Former Trustee, generous benefactor, and longtime friend of the College, Florence Sponberg, passed away at her North Mankato home on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the age of 97.

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton will visit Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday, Oct. 3, and will speak at the inauguration ceremony of President Rebecca M. Bergman. Bergman, who started her duties as Gustavus’s President on July 1, 2014, will be officially inaugurated as the College’s 17th president at 2:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel.
