Each summer, Gustavus welcomes its new students to campus to register for their first semester of classes. The 2009 registration sessions are June 30-July 2.

In addition to meeting with faculty members to select classes during New Student Registration, members of the Class of 2013 and their parents have the opportunity to attend informational sessions on a wide range of topics (such as on life at Gustavus, managing money, technology on campus, and being a successful student athlete), tour residence halls, and meet other new Gustavus families.

Faculty members and returning students who had the opportunity to meet with new students early in the week commented on the intellect of the incoming class.

“They seem really together and really savvy. The two people I met so far were so prepared. They were great,” said Joyce Sutphen, associate professor of English.

It brings back memories for Matt Schueffner ’10, who is helping guide new students through the registration experience. Schueffner vividly recalls registering for the first time, three years ago.

“I was scared. I remember I didn’t really talk to many people; I was intimidated. You can really empathize with them. I enjoy helping them get a little more comfortable. We have a lot of friends to make,” he said.

Gustavus enrolls a total of 2,500 undergraduate students and about 600 of them are incoming students.
