Softball Advances to Division III Finals

The Gustavus Adolphus College softball team defeated Webster University 11-1 in five innings on Sunday, May 10 to win the NCAA Midwest Regional and advance to the Division III Finals for the first time in program history.

The Gustavus Adolphus College softball team defeated Webster University 11-1 in five innings on Sunday, May 10 to win the NCAA Midwest Regional and advance to the Division III Finals for the first time in program history.

The Gusties, who are now 39-7 on the season, will travel to Montclair, N.J., to participate in the eight-team tournament May 15-19. Gustavus will face the University of Texas-Tyler in a first round game at 10 a.m. Friday, May 15.

Gustavus dominated the Midwest Regional by posting a 4-0 record and outscoring its opponents 41-14.

In the regional final against Webster, junior pitcher Betsie Collins allowed only two hits and one run through five innings. First-year Lisa Klass provided plenty of offense by going 2-for-2 at the plate with a homerun and four RBI’s.

Klass was one of four Gustavus players named to the All Tournament Team along with seniors Rachael Click and Emily Klein, and sophomore Emily Wendorff.
