The results are in from Recyclemania, the 10-week recycling and waste reduction competition between 550 participating schools, colleges, and universities across the country. Gustavus Adolphus College collected 72,900 pounds of recyclables during the competition.
In the Grand Champion competition, which measured achievement in both recycling per capita and waste minimization, Gustavus ranked 49th. That was the highest ranking of the four schools from the state of Minnesota that participated. The University of St. Thomas ranked 62nd, the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities ranked 80th, and Macalester College ranked 121st.
With just more than 20 pounds of recyclables per person on campus, Gustavus ranked 52nd in the Per Capita Classic. With approximately 54 pounds of municipal solid waste per person on campus, Gustavus ranked 83rd in the Waste Minimization Prize.
