March Continuing Education Lectures at Gustavus Adolphus College

The public is invited to the following “continuing education” lectures at Gustavus Adolphus College:

· Jeff Jeremiason, environmental studies and chemistry, will present “The Earth is Warming — What Should We Do About It?” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center. He will discuss the warming that has occurred over the last 100 years on earth and possible ways to slow this trend. Cost is $5.

· Barbara Fister, academic librarian, will present “Just the Facts Ma’am: How Crime Fiction Re-Invents Reality” at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 16 in a C. Charles Jackson Campus Center Banquet Room. Fister will focus on the ways that mystery writers use research and their imaginations to create parallel worlds. Soup and sandwich will be served; cost is $7.

· Arnoldus Gruter, licensed psychologist and former artist-in-residence at Minnesota State University, will present a lecture with slides, titled “From Pyramid to Slum: How our Perception of Reality is Shaped by What We See” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 23 in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center. He will discuss the significance of visual symbols as selective perception agents in Western culture. Cost is $5.

· Don Ostrom, political science, will present “Is the U.S. Congress Any Different Than a Generation Ago?” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30 in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center. He will discuss differences and similarities in Congressional life over time. Cost is $5.
