Twelve Students Honored for Academic Achievement

One senior and 11 juniors at Gustavus Adolphus College have recently been honored for their academic achievements. On Friday, Nov. 16 the College announced its annual Albert G. Swanson and Gerhard T. Alexis Scholars.

One senior and 11 juniors at Gustavus Adolphus College have recently been honored for their academic achievements. On Friday, Nov. 16 the College announced its annual Albert G. Swanson and Gerhard T. Alexis Scholars.

Senior David Pearson was named the Albert G. Swanson Scholar for the 2007-08 academic year. The award is presented annually to the senior student who has achieved the highest academic record through the first three years at the College. Professor Swanson was a professor of mathematics, an academic dean, and an acting president of the College in 1968-69.

Rebecca Carlson, Katie Halvorsen, Katie Jensen, Joshua Knutson, Laura Lynch, David Mann, Andrew Scott, Scott Simpkins, Kristin Willer, Daniel Wingert, and Hannah Wunsch were all named Gerhard T. Alexis Scholars for the 2007-08 academic year. The award is presented annually to the junior students who have achieved the highest academic record through the first two years at the College. Dr. Alexis was a longtime (1947-1983) professor of English and American studies and helped bring the Phi Beta Kappa chapter to the College.

All 12 students will be officially recognized at the College’s 2008 Honors Day ceremony.
