Meet New Assistant Dean of Students Peter Meagher

On Friday, June 24, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students JoNes VanHecke announced that Dr. Peter Meagher had accepted the position of Assistant Dean of Students/Student Conduct Coordinator at Gustavus Adolphus College.

On Friday, June 24, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students JoNes VanHecke announced that Dr. Peter Meagher had accepted the position of Assistant Dean of Students/Student Conduct Coordinator at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Meagher holds a B.A. in biology and chemistry from Lawrence University, a M.S. in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University.

Most recently, Meagher served as Associate Dean of Student and Campus Life at Reed College in Portland, Ore. In that position, Meagher oversaw residence life, the student activities office, and dining services. He also provided training and assistance to the judicial board and honor council, served as the lead on honor cases brought forth by student services, met with students regarding alcohol and drug violations, and conducted intervention and prevention activities for sexual assault.

Prior to assuming his responsibilities at Reed College, Meagher worked for three years (2006-2009) as a Research Assistant in the Department of Higher Education and Student Affairs at Bowling Green State University. Prior to that, he served for six years (2000-2006) as Director of the Campus Safety Project at Edgewood College.

A licensed clinical social worker, Meagher also has professional counseling experience including a two-year stint as a family therapist at Lutheran Social Services.

Meagher will begin his duties at Gustavus in early August.
