February Continuing Education Events at Gustavus Adolphus College

The public is invited to the following continuing education events at Gustavus Adolphus College:

  • “Valentine’s Day” will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 in Alumni Hall in the O.J. Johnson Student Union at Gustavus. Dinner will accompany a special appearance by the Gustavus Swing Club. The group will showcase dances like the Charleston, Lindyhop, Jitterbug/East Coast Swing, and more. Cost is $15 and includes dinner and entertainment.
  • “Armistice Day — November 11” will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20 in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center at Gustavus. Ron Green, professor emeritus of education at Gustavus, will talk about the causes of World War I, describe some of the fiercest battles — including Ypres, Verdun, and the Somme — and will speculate on the legacies of the war after the Armistice brought an end to the conflict. Cost is $5 and includes coffee and dessert.
  • “Mardi Gras in New Orleans” will be presented at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the Three Crowns Room in the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center at Gustavus. Following a traditional creole New Orleans dinner, Bob Douglas, professor of geography at Gustavus, will give a talk titled “Why the French Got it Right,” followed with traditional Dixieland music by the Flood Plain Four. Cost is $15 and includes dinner and entertainment.
