Diwali Festival of Lights, a traditional Hindu celebration, will be observed at Gustavus Adolphus College at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28 in Alumni Hall, in O.J. Johnson Student Union.
The festival will be performance-based and will feature traditional Hindu songs and dances. Gustavus seniors Prawol Bhattarai and Asfandiyar Qamar will perform a traditional song, Gustavus dancers will perform a dance centered on Hindu tradition, and student dancers from Minnesota State University, Mankato and St. Olaf College will also perform dance routines. Additionally, Katha Dance Studio, a professional dance group based in Crystal, Minn., will participate.
Before and after the performances, Gustavus’ Dining Service will provide traditional Diwali cuisine featuring curries, jeera rice, and lassi — a traditional Indian yogurt drink. Henna body art will also be available.
The Diwali Festival of Lights celebration at Gustavus is co-sponsored by the Crossroads Program, the Asian Cultures Club, the International Cultures Club, and the Center for Vocational Reflection.
