For the third straight year, a group of Gustavus Adolphus College education majors are completing a portion of their student teaching requirements in Sotogrande, Spain.
Students Drew Ingvalson, Katie Kaderlik, Mary Ellen Korby, Brittani Matzke, Sara Schroeder, Julia Schultz, and Chris Stewart arrived in Spain on Oct. 29 and will return to Minnesota on Dec. 15.
The students are blogging about their experiences in Sotogrande at gustiesinspain2010.blogspot.com. In a recent post, Kaderlik described getting acclimated to the Sotogrande International School:
“This school is inquiry based and I am quickly learning how differently they teach here. I am working in a wonderful PYP2 class which is equivalent to a first grade class in the U.S. My students are currently working on a six week long unit of inquiry based learning around celebrations. They have three central questions which guide all of their learning and subjects are easily integrated. It has been challenging for me to learn how to teach in this new style, but after a week of observing, assisting and jumping in to teaching I feel like I am finally starting to understand the school philosophy!”
In addition to the group student teaching in Sotogrande, a second group of Gustavus students will student teach in Barrow, Alaska, during the spring semester.
