Sweden’s young guitarist Mattias Jacobsson will appear in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at Gustavus Adolphus College’s Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Tickets for the event are $10 and are available at the door. Jacobsson’s performance will be preceded by a master class with students from the College.
Jacobsson has studied with such great guitarists as Erik Möllerstöm in Sweden and Sharon Isbin at the Juilliard School of Music. At the age of 17, he made his recital debut at the Stockholm International Guitar Festival and followed immediately with a tour through Estonia and his first recording.
Since that time, he has performed with principal members of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Danish Radio Symphony and has been broadcast on the BBC throughout Europe and NPR in the United States. Throughout 2009, his program “Es Musica” will be broadcast bi-weekly on Television Espanol’s centennial celebration of the music of Francisco Tarrega. His American debut was at the Alice Tully Hall in New York.
Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 7:00 p.m. The recital will be followed by a reception for the artist. The event is being sponsored by the department of music and the office of the president.
