As the Gustavus Adolphus College community nears the conclusion of another successful academic year, the College will celebrate student accomplishments through a series of events at its annual Honors Weekend from May 6-8.

The Celebration of Creative Inquiry and Spring Science Research Symposium kick off the weekend’s events from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, May 6 in Beck Hall. Students will share their research, scholarship, and creative work through a series of poster displays and research presentations. This year, the event will showcase work conducted in 23 departments and programs from across campus and across various disciplines.

On Saturday, May 7, the cornerstone event of the weekend takes place with the annual Honors Convocation at 10 a.m. in Christ Chapel. During this celebratory recognition, students are highlighted for their academic, service, and leadership achievements. For those who cannot attend in person, the convocation will be streamed live and archived on the College’s YouTube channel. Following the service, students, families, faculty, and staff are invited to continue the celebration at a reception on Eckman Mall.

Throughout the day, additional receptions and recognition events for particular groups and departments will be held across campus. Visit the Honors Weekend website to learn more and see the full schedule of events. A robust slate of fine arts events will also take place throughout the weekend, including the final theatre production of the semester (Gloria), the opening reception of the senior studio art major exhibition in the Hillstrom Museum on Saturday from 4-6 p.m., and four major music concerts (the Honors Recital, Choral Showcase, and two Jazz Showcases).

In addition to the recognition of student achievements that will take place throughout the weekend, the Friends of the Library—Gustavus Library Associates will be hosting its biennial Books in Bloom event in the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors to campus are encouraged to visit the library on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to see custom floral arrangements created by designers and artists who interpret a book, film, or other resource selected from the library’s holdings. Learn more about Books in Bloom online.

Masking is not currently mandated on the Gustavus campus but may be required at specific events. Visitors to campus are encouraged to mask to their own comfort level except where required.
