Gustavus Adolphus College and Gustavus Library Associates (GLA) will host the 19th biennial A Royal Affair on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Radisson Blu Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn.
A fundraising event for the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library at Gustavus, A Royal Affair will include live and silent auctions, a formal dinner, music, and dancing as the Gustavus community comes together to celebrate a great cause.
GLA is an organization comprised of friends of the College and supports all academics at Gustavus by promoting learning and literature through the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library. Founded in 1977, GLA raises money to provide a wide range of library resources for students, faculty, and guests on the Gustavus campus.
This year’s event will be hosted by Gustavus alumni Colleen Brady Lindstrom ’99, a radio talk show host for FM 107, and Adam Carter ’98, a broadcast journalist for WCCO Radio. Kim Fragodt and the Benny Weinbeck Trio will provide the music and entertainment for the evening.
This gala event has raised over two million dollars since the first A Royal Affair in 1978. This year, over 200 auction items will be offered, including an iconic Paul Granlund sculpture donated by GLA board member Evodia Linner. Granlund received his bachelor’s degree from Gustavus in 1952 and became a well-known artist during his lifetime. His figurative bronze sculptures have been featured around the Gustavus campus and at churches and college campuses across the country.
The auction at the gala will also include an exclusive dinner with President Bergman and Kevin Kling ‘79 at Gustavus, tickets to the 2016 Ryder Cup at the Hazeltine National Golf Course, and many more exciting items available for a variety of interests. “The silent auction has, in recent years, become somewhat of a showcase for the artistic and literary gifts of the Gustavus faculty” event co-chair Jan Michaletz ’74 said. “We hope that our creative efforts will attract interest and competitive bidding.”
A separate online auction will also be available from Friday, Nov. 6 at 12 p.m. to Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. To view the items and bid online, visit the online auction website.
All of the proceeds from the auction will directly support the Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library and its resources for all students and faculty.
Tickets are still available for A Royal Affair. Browse the auction items or sign up online or by calling the Gustavus Office of Marketing and Communication at 507-933-7550.
