Gustavus Adolphus College welcomed the Class of 2019 to campus on Friday, September 4, 2015 with lots of energy, plenty of sun and a heat index nearing 100 degrees. President Rebecca Bergman along with an energetic group of Gustie Greeters welcomed the 640 members of the incoming class with creative cheers and lots of high fives, while the Gustie football team provided the muscle to help everyone haul furniture, clothing, and electronics into the dormitories.

There was a full day of activities including getting settled in the dormitories, family pictures at the Gustavus sign, lunch in the Roberts Ice Arena, an ice cream sundae reception outside of Old Main, the ceremonial welcome and presentation of the entering class in Christ Chapel, and a parent/family dinner theatre presented by the Gustie Greeters in the banquet rooms in the Jackson Campus Center.

With parents departing in the early evening the focus turned to the first year class getting acquainted to their new surroundings during new student orientation which runs through Monday, Sept. 7.

The first full evening of activities includes:

7:30pm The Power of Positive Action: – The focus is to empower you to take action in challenges you may encounter. The Peer Assistants will lead you through scenarios and teach you skills to effectively respond as a bystander.

8:30pm Orientation to Community Living – Meet and interact with Residential Life staff and your fellow residents. Learn valuable information and discuss issues relevant to on-campus living.

10 pm Hypnotist – Chris Jones – This high-energy interactive show allows the Class of 2019 to be the stars.

The Gustavus upperclass students will return on Monday, Sept. 7 and classes for the 154th academic year will officially begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
