Professor Deborah Goodwin to Give Inaugural Wahlstrom Lecture
Gustavus Adolphus College Associate Professor of Religion Deborah Goodwin will give the College’s first annual Matthias Wahlstrom Lecture at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 17 in room 101 of Beck Academic Hall. Goodwin’s lecture is titled “The Liberal Arts and Class Warfare” and will be free and open to the public.
African Studies Program to Host Dr. August Nimtz Jr. on April 8
The African Studies Program at Gustavus Adolphus College will host University of Minnesota Professor Dr. August Nimtz Jr. for a public lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 in room 128 of Confer Hall. Nimtz’s talk is titled “Ebola in Africa: A product of history, not a natural phenomenon” and will be free and open to the public.
Fifth Annual Gustavus Women in Leadership Conference is April 16
The fifth annual Gustavus Women in Leadership (GWIL) Conference is titled “Drive, Thrive, Revive: Setting Your Pace Through the Journey of Life” and will take place Thursday, April 16 at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. This year’s conference will feature Gustavus President Rebecca Bergman and alumna Semonti Stephens ’03 as keynote speakers.

Josh Sande ’12 Discovers Academic Curiosity and Passion for Public Service
Gustavus Adolphus College alumnus Josh Sande '12 says that he came to Gustavus an unmotivated and indifferent student, and four years later left the school as a thoughtful and intellectually engaged college graduate. Since graduating from Gustavus, Sande has spent time working for Teach for America and as an intern at The White House.
Young Alumni Start Careers at Minnesota’s Prestigious Corporations
Nine months ago you would have been able to find Joey MacGibbon ’14, Krista Ripperton ’14, and Michael Morimoto ’14 roaming around the Gustavus Adolphus College campus enjoying their final days as undergraduate students. Today you can find them in the offices of three of Minnesota’s most prestigious corporations: General Mills, United Health Group, and 3M.
Two Gusties Receive Rossing Physics Scholarships
Gustavus Adolphus College students Mikaela Algren ’17 and Grace Kerber ’17 have been named Rossing Physics Scholars for 2015-16. Algren is one of five students to receive a $10,000 scholarship for next year, while Kerber is one of seven students to receive a $5,000 honorable mention scholarship for next year.
U.S. Senator Klobuchar to Speak at Building Bridges Conference
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar will be at Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, March 7, at the College’s annual Building Bridges Conference, which is titled “Hidden in Plain Sight: Recognizing and Rejecting Rape Culture”. Senator Klobuchar will deliver a welcoming address to conference attendees at approximately 9 a.m. in Christ Chapel and will also discuss some of her work in Congress on issues related to sexual assault.
Rhodes Scholar Finalist Now Fighting Human Trafficking
Finding one’s vocation is a process. Just ask Gustavus Adolphus College alumna Julia Tindell ’13. After four fruitful and rewarding years at Gustavus and completing the rigorous process associated with being a Rhodes Scholar finalist, Tindell has found her calling at a non-profit organization in St. Paul that serves women and girls involved in systems of abuse, exploitation, prostitution, and sex trafficking.
National Security Expert David Cole to Speak at Gustavus Thursday
Dr. David Cole, the Hon. George J. Mitchell Professor in Law and Public Policy at Georgetown University, will speak at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 as part of the College’s new Christenson Lectureship in Politics and Law.
