The Spring 2013 issue of Firethorne – the student literary and graphic arts magazine at Gustavus Adolphus College – will be unveiled Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in the Courtyard Café. Refreshments will be served at the event and several students will read from their work.

Senior Julia Tindell Named Commencement Speaker

Gustavus Adolphus College senior Julia Tindell has been chosen by a committee of faculty, staff, and students to speak at the College’s commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 2. Tindell is a native of Apple Valley, Minn., who will graduate with a major in English and minor in theatre.

Anderson Theatre to Present Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College is proud to present the finishing act of its 2012-13 season with Machinal, a groundbreaking American Expressionist play by Sophie Treadwell, directed by Amy Seham. Performances of Machinal will be presented in Anderson Theatre May 9-11 at 8 p.m. and May 12 at 2 p.m.

Out of Scandinavia Artist in Residence is Johanna Sinisalo

Award-winning Finnish author Johanna Sinisalo will visit Gustavus Adolphus College May 6-10 as this year’s Out of Scandinavia Artist in Residence. She will present a free public lecture titled “Finding Fresh Perspectives – The Breakthrough of Non-realistic Genres in Finnish Contemporary Fiction,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, in room 127 of Confer Hall.

Senior Studio Art Majors to Display Work at Hillstrom Museum

Six senior studio art majors at Gustavus Adolphus College will have their work displayed at the College’s Hillstrom Museum of Art beginning May 4 through June 2. The exhibition, !Look At That, Art Attack! Senior Art Majors Exhibition 2013 will hold an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.

Sarah Lucht ’13 Receives Fulbright Grant to Iceland

Gustavus Adolphus College senior Sarah Lucht ’13 has been awarded a Fulbright Study/Research Grant to Iceland for 2013. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
