This year the Gustavus Dance Company celebrates an exciting milestone: its 25th anniversary concert. The company will once again take to the stage of Anderson Theatre for an innovative, artistic, and thought-provoking concert March 22-24. This year’s concert features the choreography of faculty members Melissa Rolnick, Sarah Hauss, and Jennifer Glaws, alumnus Philip Flickinger ‘01, guest artist Cynthia Gutierrez-Garner, and the student works of junior Mallory Waytashek and senior Hollie Edlund.
The 25th Anniversary Concert presents a mix of styles, ideas, and stories, told in different ways by each choreographer. These pieces cover a variety of topics and encourage the audience to consider new ideas. Certain pieces have been created solely to entertain and showcase movement, others to get the audience thinking about what makes us human, and yet others to display the connection of mind and body and how our ability to move shapes our lives.
The concert features students from all four years, dancing together on the Anderson stage, some for the very first time and others for the very last time. It has an eclectic mix of physical athleticism and artistic expression showcasing the very best of the Gustavus Dance Company.
As part of the 25th anniversary celebration, the concert also features a very special piece choreographed by alumni Colleen Brady Lindstrom ’99, Nickie Kromminga ’98, Ashleigh Penrod ’04, Sarah Jabar ’10, and Renee Guittar ’12, and performed by 25 alumni dancers from three different eras. These dancers have collaborated to celebrate the Company’s anniversary and Professor Michele Rusinko’s incredible 25 years of direction and dedication to the Theatre and Dance Department.
Melissa Rolnick and Michele Rusinko will serve as co-artistic directors of the concert. Faculty member Micah Maatman will serve as Production Manager. Faculty Terena Wilkins and Larissa McConnell will design lights, sound, and costumes, respectively.
