Celebration of Creative Inquiry is Friday

Gustavus Adolphus College will hold its fifth annual Celebration of Creative Inquiry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 4 in the banquet rooms of the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center. This campus-wide forum is a way for students to publicly share their research and scholarship from the current academic year.

Kruckeberg Receives Bob Stein College Scholar Athlete Award

Gustavus Adolphus College senior Brad Kruckeberg is the recipient of the 2012 Bob Stein College Scholar Athlete Award. Kruckeberg has been a standout on both the football field and in the classroom during his four years at the College.

Sophomore Megan Wika Receives DAAD Undergraduate Scholarship

Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore Megan Wika ’14 has been awarded a scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD)/German Academic Exchange Service that will allow her to study in Freiburg, Germany next fall through the IES Environmental Studies and Sustainability Program.

Ten senior studio art majors at Gustavus Adolphus College will have their work displayed at the College’s Hillstrom Museum of Art May 5-27. The exhibition, Senior Exhibition 2012: Unveiled will hold an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 5.

Thursday Lecture to Address the Physics of Brass Musical Instruments

Dr. Brian Holmes, Professor of Physics at San Jose State University will speak at Gustavus Adolphus College at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in Room 214 of the Schaefer Fine Arts Building. Dr. Holmes’ talk is titled “The Physics of Brass Musical Instruments, or What Do Horn Players Do With Their Right Hands, Anyway?”

Students Provide Medical Care in Western Africa

This January, four Gustavus students traveled to Ghana to assist with care in a hospital, teach students about proper hygiene and learn more about medical care in a foreign setting. The students traveled with connections from Africa Partners Medical and met Dr. Jean Young ’70, an expert physician and surgeon in Saboba, Ghana.

Two Gusties Named Fulbright Scholars

Gustavus Adolphus College alumna Claire Sagstuen ’11 and current senior Jean-Paul Noel ’12 have both been named Fulbright Scholars for 2012. Sagstuen will be teaching English in Bulgaria next year, while Noel will conduct research in Switzerland.
