Gustavus Adolphus College will offer a pair of workshops Feb. 24-25 that will provide attendees with tools to address conflict, injustice, and violence in today’s world. The interactive workshops will be led by Executive Director of Lutheran Peace Fellowship Glen Gersmehl.
Gersmehl earned a graduate degree in conflict and international security from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and has taught university courses and led workshops in conflict transformation and peacemaking for two decades. He has led workshops in 40 states for audiences ranging from activist and college groups to the United Nations and a White House conference. He has extensive experience in policy development and advocacy and has written testimony or consulted with 20 government agencies and legislative bodies. His peacemaking activity in Lutheran churches led to his selection as the U.S. delegate to the 1999 meetings in India to plan the U.N. Decade for Peace.
The introductory workshop on Friday, Feb. 24 will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center and is free and open to the public. The workshop on Saturday, Feb. 25 will take place from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center. Saturday’s session is also open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10 for off-campus attendees. Snacks and lunch will be provided on Saturday.
Gersmehl’s workshops are part of a three-part series on Lutheran peacebuilding sponsored by Peace Studies, Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies (LALACS), and the Sesquicentennial Fund.
