As the Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team continues to assert itself as a top 10 program in the country, the success and popularity of the College’s Summer Speech Institute continues to grow.

The 47th annual Nobel Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College, scheduled for Oct. 4-5, 2011, is titled The Brain and Being Human and will engage audience members with topics and discussion in the field of neuroscience.

On Friday, June 24, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students JoNes VanHecke announced that Dr. Peter Meagher had accepted the position of Assistant Dean of Students/Student Conduct Coordinator at Gustavus Adolphus College.

The Gustavus Global Insight program, now in its fourth year of existence, will focus on the Circumpolar Region of Alaska, Northern Canada, Russia, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden throughout the 2011-12 academic year.

The Rev. Craig Johnson, a 1969 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, has decided to resign his position as Bishop of the Minneapolis Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to accept the position of Interim Senior Pastor at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.

As Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore drops anchor on the Guthrie Theatre Stage June 18 – August 28, 2011, she will be captained by Twin Cities actor/vocalist Robert O. Berdahl ’90. Guthrie Artistic Director Joe Dowling directs this summer’s hit musical which features Berdahl as Captain Corcoran and Christina Baldwin as Little Buttercup.

The Rev. Paul Youngdahl, senior pastor at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and one of Gustavus Adolphus College’s most prominent alumni, has died. He was stricken while participating in one of the ministries closest to his heart, Cathedral of the Pines youth camp, on Caribou Lake near Lutsen, Minn., and died on June 20…
