Gustavus Set to Induct Nine New Members into Athletics Hall of Fame

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department has chosen nine individuals for induction into its Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2011 inductees include Todd Anderson ’95 (Soccer), Amanda Murdock Diehl ’92 (Gymnastics), Jay Klagge ’92 (Basketball), Tracy Erickson McMorrow ’95 (Tennis), Scott Moe ’95 (Golf), Laura LeVander Peters ’96 (Softball), Bryan Ripken ’94 (Swimming), Colleen Barland Sherman ’96 (Soccer), and Owen Sammelson ’58 (Benefactor).

Forensics Team Wins at SDSU

The Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team won the team sweepstakes at the Jackrabbit Jousts, hosted by South Dakota State University on Oct. 7-8.

Football Team Earns 37-0 Victory over Hamline

The Gustavus Adolphus College football team earned its first victory of the season on Saturday, Oct. 8 when it defeated Hamline University 37-0.

Breaking a Code Spanning Decades

Emily Thielman ’05 loves solving puzzles. When selecting a January Interim Experience in 2004, she chose a cryptography course, in which she studied how one can decrypt secret messages without knowing the enciphering key. At the time, she had no way of knowing how she, along with Professor John Holte, would later help another Gustie solve a family mystery dating back nearly 100 years using cryptography.
