Women Leadership Conference April 8

The first annual Gustavus Women in Leadership conference, “Women Discovering Leadership,” will be held Friday, April 8 in Alumni Hall from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The event will consist of presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and lunch.

Susan R. Madsen, Ph.D.

The first of two keynote speakers will be Susan Madsen, Ph.D., author and expert on women in leadership. Dr. Madsen is an associate professor of management at Utah Valley University. Much of her research has focused on prominent women leaders, and she has published two books: Developing Leadership: Learning from the Experiences of Women Governors (2009) and On Becoming a Woman Leader: Learning from the Experiences of University Presidents (2008).

The second keynote speaker will be Nancy Johnson Dahl ’83, president of LifeTouch Portraits, based in the Twin Cities.

Between the two keynote speeches, attendees will have the opportunity to attend two of six breakout sessions. These session topics include: Career Advice for Female Students, The Importance of Mentoring in the Real World, Using Your College Connections to Network, Communication and Gender, a CEO Panel, and an Entrepreneurs Panel.

Here’s the day’s itinerary:

  • 8:30-9:00 Check-in, coffee & scones and social time
  • 9:00-9:15 Welcome
  • 9:15-9:55 Dr. Susan Madsen, keynote speaker
  • 10:00 Chapel Service
  • 10:30-11:10 Breakout session #1
  • 11:15-11:55 Breakout session #2
  • 12:00-12:45 Lunch
  • 12:45-1:20 Nancy Johnson Dahl ’83, closing speaker
  • 1:20-1:30 Thank you and Closing Remarks

Tickets are required and are $30 for general admission, $25 for Gustavus employees, and $15 for students. They are available through gustavustickets.com.
