Members of the Gustavus Class of 2014 are on campus to register for their first fall semester of classes during New Student Registration June 29-July 1.

Gustavus continues its unique tradition of having students come to campus to register and meet individually with faculty advisers who help guide them through class selection, including choosing tracks (Curriculum I or Curriculum II) and picking a First Term Seminar.

“One of the things that I really associate Gustavus with is this kind of personal interaction,” says English Professor Florence Amamoto. “I love meeting the students and I think that having the students meet faculty members right away gives them a chance to be in touch with our academic program from the beginning . . . before they’re even starting classes. I think that’s a really nice touch.”

Faculty members enjoy the energy, enthusiasm, and intelligence of the new students. “I think this year’s students, at least the students I’ve seen so far, are very bright and really interesting,” says Amamoto. “They have a wide range of interests and talents that they’re bringing in and I think that they’re lively and a lot of fun.”

Another faculty member agrees. “They’re well prepared,” says Bruce Johnson, economics and management professor. “They’ve thought through the curriculum, and they’re ready to go.”

Students and parents are also offered a variety of informational sessions ranging from money management and balancing a healthy lifestyle to campus technology.

Approximately 600 new students will be registering over the course of three days. These new students will return to Gustavus on September 3rd for Move-in Day.
