Over the past five years, Gustavus has developed into a leading educational institution in the state of Minnesota when it comes to speech. Often competing against large Division I universities, the Gustavus forensics program has earned a top 20 national ranking in each of the last four years. The team earned its first top 10 ranking in the program’s history in early April at the American Forensics Association’s National Individual Events Tournament. The team also won the Pi Kappa Delta individual events national championship in 2010 and is the three-time defending Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Champion.

Forensics Head Coach Kristofer Kracht also founded the Gustavus Summer Speech Institute for students in grades 9-12 to hone their competitive speech skills. Sixty-nine students from six different states attended the 2009 Summer Speech Institute.
