The Gustavus Adolphus College football team rallied for 21 points in the fourth quarter, but came up short by a score of 27-24 to Coe College in its season opener Saturday, Sept. 12.

The Gustavus Adolphus College football team and first year head coach Peter Haugen will open their 2009 season at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 against Coe College at Hollingsworth Field.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, many students and staff at Gustavus Adolphus College will take part in the second annual “Gustavus Day of Fasting – A Ramadan Celebration” in honor of the Islamic holiday of Ramadan.

The Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus College will present two exhibitions and another of its FOCUS IN/ON projects from Sept. 14 through Nov. 8.

The Gustavus Adolphus College Reading-in-Common program, St. Peter Reads, and Friends of the St. Peter Public Library have scheduled several events for Sept. 22-29 at the College and in the community of St. Peter in association with this year’s reading-in-common book, Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario.

Czech philosopher and writer Erazim Kohak, a professor at Charles University in Prague, will visit Gustavus Adolphus College Sept. 14-16. Kohak will speak at the College’s daily worship service on Monday, Sept. 14 and give two public lectures on the evenings of Sept. 14-15.

Gustavus Adolphus College opened its 148th academic year Tuesday, Sept. 8 when classes resumed at 8 a.m. for more than 2,500 undergraduate students. President Jack R. Ohle addressed students, faculty, and staff at the College’s traditional opening convocation ceremony at 10 a.m. in Christ Chapel.

On Friday, Sept. 4, Gustavus Adolphus College and this year’s Gustie Greeters welcomed nearly 630 first-year students to campus.

Moody’s Investors Service recently affirmed the A3 long-term rating on Gustavus Adolphus College’s Revenue Bonds issued through the Minnesota Higher Education Facilities Authority.

The Gustavus men’s golf team has been selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America as the Academic National Champions for Division III. Coach Scott Moe’s 2008-09 squad was the only team in Division III to post a cumulative team grade point average above 3.50.
