Gustavus Prepares for Christmas in Christ Chapel Posted on November 17th, 2008 by

The annual Christmas in Christ Chapel celebration at Gustavus Adolphus College will be held December 5-7. This year’s service is themed “Joyeux Noel: A Feast of French Music, Art, and Culture” which celebrates the Nativity of Christ through the use of the enlightening music traditions from France.

At the beginning of December, in the season of Advent, alumni, students, friends of the College, staff, and faculty all unite and worship together in preparation for Christmas. A tradition since 1973, Christmas in Christ Chapel allows the Gustavus community to celebrate the holidays with one another through music, dance, spoken word, and prayer.

Approximately 350 students, faculty, and staff bring the program to life each year
through the use of music and visual art. A new theme is chosen each year in order to teach participants something new about faith, culture, and the world. Choirs, orchestras, and dance ensembles perform at each of the five services, with approximately 1,200 people attending each one.

Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5; at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday,
Dec. 6; and at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7. Tickets are limited. To inquire about ticket availability, go online to gustavus.edu/events/ccc/ or contact the Office of Marketing and Communication at 507-933-7520.
