Brothers Lin and Leif Enger will speak at the Gustavus Library Associates’ Fall Author Day Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the Edina Country Club. The Minnesota natives each have had books published recently.
In the 1990s, under the pen name L.L. Enger, the brothers collaborated on a series of novels about a former professional baseball player. Leif went out on his own in 2001 with his million-copy seller Peace Like a River, a story told through the eyes of an 11-year-old asthmatic boy who believes in miracles. Leif’s second book, So Brave, Young, and Handsome, was published in June 2008 and spins the irresistible tale of Monte Becket, a disillusioned Minnesota writer. Lin published his first novel, Undiscovered Country, in July 2008. Set in a fictional small town in northern Minnesota, it is crafted as a retelling of the great drama of Hamlet.
Guests are asked to R.S.V.P. for this event by Wednesday, Oct. 29 by calling the Gustavus Office of Marketing and Communication at 507-933-7520. The cost for the event is $20 per person and includes brunch and an opportunity to have books signed by the two authors. Registration on the day of the event will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Both Lin and Leif Enger’s books are available for purchase at the Gustavus Book Mark. Undiscovered Country and So Brave, Young, and Handsome are available for $24, while Peace Like a River is available for $13. Purchases may also be made by calling 507-933-6017 or by e-mailing Judy Schultz at jdschult@gustavus.edu.
