A current student and a recent graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College who are brothers were involved in a fatal car accident over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Richard Insley, 23, a 2007 graduate of the college died in the accident. Aaron Insley, 21, currently a senior at the college was seriously injured and is in the intensive care unit in stable condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.
On Monday, President Jim Peterson expressed condolences from the entire Gustavus community to the victims’ loved ones.
“We are very saddened to hear about this tragic event and our deepest sympathies go out to Richard and Aaron’s family and friends,” Peterson said. “We will be praying for Aaron’s speedy recovery.”
According to media reports, Washington County deputies were called to the intersection of N. 10th Street and Neal Avenue N. in West Lakeland Township at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25. When they arrived, they found the Insley’s vehicle had left the road and hit a tree.
The funeral for Richard Insley will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Elmo, Minn. The Insley family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Richard Insley’s memory to either Gustavus Adolphus College or the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
