The public is invited to the following continuing education events at Gustavus Adolphus College:
·Clockworks: Einstein Time, the play commissioned to celebrate this year’s Nobel Conference, will be performed at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 in Evan and Evelyn Anderson Theatre at Gustavus. Dinner and a presentation by Amy Seham, professor of theatre and dance at Gustavus, will precede the play at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage Banquet Room in the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center. Cost is $19 and includes dinner and the play.
·”Picturing the Prairie: George Catlin’s Artistic Adventures in 1830’s Minnesota” will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center at Gustavus. Gareth John, professor of geography at St. Cloud State University, will discuss artist-explorer George Catlin’s travels along the upper Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers and the role his work played in the development and settlement of the region and its impact on subsequent explorers. Cost is $5 per person and includes coffee and dessert.
·”Matters of Life and Death: Reflections on the Terri Schiavo Case” will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 in the Melva Lind Interpretive Center at Gustavus by Christine Metzo, visiting instructor of philosophy at Gustavus. Metzo will discuss the legal, religious, and discursive aspects of the conflict between what was termed “sanctity of life” and “quality of life,” as well as the implications for making ethically sound end-of-life decisions. Cost is $5 per person and includes coffee and dessert.
