Gustavus Adolphus College will begin its 143rd academic year Wednesday, Sept. 8 when classes begin for the college’s expected 2,535 full-time students. An Opening Convocation with President Jim Peterson will mark the beginning of the 2004-05 academic year at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 in Christ Chapel.
Orientation for this year’s incoming class of 696 students runs Aug. 4-Sept. 7, with activities including:
· The annual President’s Banquet and following traditional square dance on Sunday evening, Sept. 5;
· Orientation group book discussions on this year’s required reading When the Emperor was Divine by Julie Otsuka in the afternoon of Sept. 6. (Note: The book is also being read by the St. Peter community; the author will visit campus Sept. 22.);
· A Student Senate sponsored ice cream social Sept. 6 on Eckman Mall;
· The annual “E Pluribus Gustavus” diversity presentation and discussion from 6-9:30 p.m. Sept. 6 in Anderson Theatre;
· A bonfire at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, on the south end of campus at the Pittman Residence Hall bonfire pit; and
· A Back-to-School Bash from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 on Eckman Mall.
