The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra performed in China’s two imperial cities: Beijing, the modern capital, and Xian, the ancient capital; and Ju Yong Pass at the Great Wall as part of the American Celebration of Music in China. The orchestra, making their debut in China, has toured throughout the United States, England, Scotland, and Wales.
The concert tour featured performances by two of the colleges 2003-04 Concerto/Aria Competition winners, showcasing concertos performed by Colin McGuire on violin and by David Adolphson on trombone. The repertoire of this concert included works by Georges Bizet, Derek Bourgeois, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Max Bruch, Camille Saint-Saens, and Peter Illich Tchaikovski. The orchestra will give a concert at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 15 in Christ Chapel.
