PostSecret’s Frank Warren to Speak at Gustavus on Wednesday Posted on April 5th, 2010 by

Frank Warren

Frank Warren, founder of the widely popular community art project PostSecret, will speak at Gustavus Adolphus College at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 5 in Christ Chapel.

PostSecret is a project in which people mail their secrets anonymously on a homemade postcard. Warren chooses select postcards and posts them on the PostSecret blog at postsecret.blogspot.com. Warren typically receives between 100 and 200 postcards daily and his website receives around three million visitors every month. Warren has also used submitted postcards to write five books and create a travelling art exhibit.

Submissions range from admissions of sexual misconduct and criminal activity to confessions of secret desires, embarrassing habits, hopes, and dreams.

Warren has appeared on the Today Show, 20/20, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and Fox News to talk about PostSecret. In 2009, Forbes magazine listed him as the No. 4 most popular “web celeb,” behind celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, tech blogger Michael Arrington, and Kevin Rose, the founder of Digg.com.

Warren’s most recently published book is titled Confessions on Life, Death, & God and was released in October 2009. His other books include PostSecret: Extraordinary Confessions from Ordinary Lives, My Secret: A PostSecret Book, The Secret Lives of Men and Women: A PostSecret Book, and A Lifetime of Secrets: A PostSecret Book.

Tickets for Gustavus students, faculty, and staff are free, but a ticket is required to attend the event. Tickets can be picked up at the SAO Information Desk on the lower level of the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center beginning Monday, April 12. Tickets for the general public are $5 and will go on sale Monday, April 26 at gustavustickets.com.

Warren’s appearance at Gustavus is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, the Center for Vocational Reflection, and the student organization Explore.
