Gustavus to Celebrate All-Steinway Distinction

Gustavus Adolphus College will celebrate its place on the “All-Steinway Schools” list with a dedication piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 4 at Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Seniors Ryan Ike, Phil Sowden, Beth Stauffer, Brianna Vaa, and Alex Zupan will all perform pieces at the dedication.

Gustavus Awarded NCAA Grant for Alcohol Education

Gustavus Adolphus College has been awarded a three-year, $29,003 CHOICES program grant from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Through the CHOICES program, the NCAA provides funding to member institutions to integrate athletics into campus-wide efforts to reduce alcohol abuse. Gustavus is one of 15 NCAA institutions nationwide to receive a CHOICES grant in 2007.

Governor Tim Pawlenty announced Friday that Gustavus Adolphus College graduate Ivy S. Bernhardson (’73) has been appointed to one of three trial court bench vacancies in the Fourth Judicial District in Hennepin County. Bernhardson was named along with Peter A. Cahill and William H. Koch.

The 20th annual convention of the Gustavus Adolphus College Association of Congregations will be held Saturday, April 28. Gustavus will host pastors and delegates from the 518 Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) congregations from the state and across the country that are current member congregations of the association.

A Scholastic book fair will take place April 24-26 at Gustavus Adolphus College in the Dive, located in the O.J. Johnson Student Union. A wide variety of books will be available for purchase from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the three-day event.
