Gustavus Adolphus College and the Epsilon Pi Alpha Fraternity will host the fifth annual Take the Hill Triathlon on Saturday, April 28. The event is a benefit for Insuilindependence, a nonprofit organization that aims to help Type-1 diabetics live active and healthy lifestyles, that was founded by Gustavus and Epsilon Pi Alpha alumnus Peter Nerothin ’02.
Insulindependence holds strong to its mission of inspiring people with diabetes to set personal fitness goals, educating them on adaptive management strategies through hands-on experience, and equipping them to explore their capacities as individuals.
The triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim in the Lund Center Natatorium pool, a 12.5 mile bike ride and a 3.3 mile run. With 150-200 participants expected, the running portion of the race has been changed this year and will include a path winding through the Linnaeus Arboretum and across the Gustavus campus.
The triathlon will be accompanied by a silent auction, voluntary glucose testing, further information on diabetes, and a raffle for a free bike, as well as many vendors.
Following the race, everyone is invited to Patrick’s on Third, where they can buy a Take the Hill burger, three dollars of which will go towards the cause of Insuilindependence. More information about the Take the Hill Triathlon is available online at takethehilltri.org.
